Se non riuscite a cominciare con Gimp, non sapete quali strumenti usare o non sapete come funzionano; se non avete idea delle potenzialità dei suoi filtri questo è il forum che fa per voi! Ricordate che qui si parla di come usare i filtri, per i problemi di installazione esiste una sezione apposita.

per quanto riguarda linux, visto che gtk2 prende le impostazioni di sistema da xfs (x font server) basta configurare xfs in modo che prenda la directory giusta dove sono installati i font.
prova a vedere nel file di configurazione di xfs (slocate xfs.conf)

a me pare invece che basti copiare i font nella tua home nella opportuna cartella dentro ".gimp qualche cosa".. come su windows d'altra parte..
